» Meditation+Exercise+Diet=Happiness!
Tom McNally
Posted January 23, 2012 by Tom McNally
Meditation, exercise and diet. They are the mix that make the foundation for the building of a life full of Love, Peace and Happiness.
I have written many posts about meditation, so now let me write something about the other two.
1) Let me start with exercise. Exercise puts your mind in exactly the state that you want it to be in. When you exercise your pituitary gland and your hypothalamus, which are both located at the base of the brain, pour a strong stream of sizzling serotonin, endorphins and hormones. These are the snap, crackle and pop of happiness. They will make you feel high, happy and ready for anything! If you already exercise, you should know what I mean. If you don’t know what I mean, Learn to look for it, get the feel of it and then amplify it up. After every workout, learn to really enjoy the high feeling that will be there. Find it! Your body may be buggered but your brain will be buzzing!
If you don’t exercise, start as soon as possible. You don’t have to start off too strenuously, just start easy. But do it, do it regularly and do it often.
2) Diet. Recent research found that what we eat has a massive effect on our mental health particularly depression and anxiety.
A thousand people were asked about their diet and mental-health symptoms. What made this study different was that for the first time the whole diet of the subjects was looked at, rather than just the role of specific nutrients, such as omega-3, magnesium and folate, in relation to depression and anxiety disorders. Interestingly, the results were the same, irrespective of age or socio-economic status – or even exercise. The study found that those subjects who had diets high in processed foods and junk food were more likely to suffer anxiety and depression disorders than those who had whole-food diets high in vegetables, fruit, fish and other lean protein.
The research on diet concentrated on it’s affect on stress, anxiety and depression. I would like to point out that uncountable studies on exercise and meditation show the strong affect these have on them as well. Meditation, exercise and diet all play a powerful part in preventing stress, anxiety and depression from taking over your mind. So, when you use these three together, you won’t only be happier but you’ll also be healthier!

i have found that roller blading on inline skates about 4 miles is the best cardio i can do to get it into shape.. it works ALL muscle groups, as one must balance on the skates, one must hold the body erect, pump the legs and arms, etc. As for the food, i like the phrase 'living food for living cells'. A new blender drink last year was banana, peanut butter, flax seeds, shaved almonds(the least expensive raw nut alternative), and my daily vitamin/mineral pressed tablet. Another recent craze is crispy kale in the oven with almond oil on it either before or after broiling. Lastly, i find that i can get my necessary EFA's nicely enough just by adding some coconut oil, almond oil and flax seeds here and there in the diet, and that this way i dont need to take the fish oil supplements to get the essential fatty acids to properly grease my brain.

These three parts would equal happiness. It might be easier said than done, but I think if a routine is put in place then it would be easier.

I've been doing that for years. I think it's something we should all be keeping up with.

I love the feeling after I get done working out. That feeling is what helps me to motivate and work out.

I have that same feeling after my morning 4 mile jogs, especially with some gummy oatmeal and some wheat toast.
