» Afraid of our Light???
Brother Ken
Posted February 5, 2012 by Brother Ken in Beyond Religion
Not only does the Master appear when the student is ready, but the inspiration resurfaces when it is thought of. I had been thinking about Nelson Mandela's quote regarding humanity not fearing their own inadequacies as much as their own Light. A few hours later I picked up a spiritual newsletter and there it was on the back page:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
(Nelson Mandela).

This is powerful and strips away my wanting to 'play small' or thinking that I make others around me feel insecure if I let my light shine, rather than just the opposite.

Perhaps that's one of the great blessings of this site--we are here to receive and share more of that light, finding ways to shine more brightly.......I'm thankful for that.

What a great message, I can totally relate because when I feel I am super confident and powerful a kind of fear comes up. Almost like am I allowed to feel this good and this bright...

Thanks Mitch....that's how I feel often as well...and it doesn't help anyone for me to 'play small'....Especially after spending so many years developing my talents and gifts, learning to let that LIGHT shine out more...why do I still hide it at times?? Am I afraid? Perhaps.....but working through that fear....which is why we are HERE!!!!
Blesssings, Ken.

You know it may be my childish self but I couldn't help remembering that line "master will appear" is from an Antonio Banderas movie. I just can't remember.

Yes, maybe it was Zorro, with Anthony Hopkins as well....great movie...If it wasn't that movie, it certainly applies, as he needed his 'master' to appear.

So our deepest fear is that we're too afraid of our potential?

However you read into what truth Nelson Mandela is writing about that you resonate with Herschel. For me it's sometimes not feeling like I'm fitting in or accepted by others if I use many of my gifts of music, art, etc.....Other times, obviously, they cannot be hid under a bushel, I use them and they are multiplied. However we conceive of 'the next place', "heaven", whatever, it certainly may be a place where we are fully freed to fully shine! Even though we are daily learning how to do that better now---PRESENCE....

...Shalom, Ken

I think we should go all in when it comes to potential.
