Should social sites like Facebook include an option to state your religious affiliation?

If it's an option, you have a choice to answer or not. I already belong to 2 sites that have that option, & most people have an answer there....me too, "spiritual".

Facebook has an option for this, but you don't have to fill it in. I have opted for "integral", most people don't know what it is but it sounds friendly ;-). I think even if there was no such option people might like to indicate their religion, I think most of the time these media are open to possibilities.

Historically, from my experience, personal questions like that have traditionally been avoided. It can lead to biases and prejudices against that individual. More importantly it seems clear to me that religious affiliations lead to intolerance, bigotry, dualism (my religion vs.your religion). So religious affiliation on FB would lead to separateness when I think the goal is "that we are one in the body of Christ?!"

Yes, I believe that is the wise response. Proclaiming our religion to others, that may not understand, can prejudice them. In the boxing ring it would be called leading with the chin. When our goal is to be helpful to others, prudence is a virtue that carries a high rating. Why screw up a future chance to be helpful; by branding ourselves religious fanatics or religious bores. It is NOT the world that I am trying to reach; it is you, sitting next to me.

As long as it is an option, not a requirement....some find these kinds of sights a great way to connect with others all over the US and abroad....some people probably would be really hesitant to state their spiritual preferences as unfortunately there is a lot of judgement...
