Keogh was founded to connect people to programs and services that help with healthcare and nutrition, which can be a major first step towards stability and sustainability.
Keogh accomplish this through targeted outreach aimed at women and children and offering application assistance for AHCCCS(Medicaid), KidsCare, and Food Stamps (now called SNAP). Keogh has developed a network of community collaborations, which identify uninsured people. Keogh uniquely offers three levels of collaboration to partners with the aim of stimulating other non-profits to become independent and continue these services without other support.
Keogh’s bilingual staff provides direct assistance to individuals by counseling and assisting with applications for health and nutrition programs. When someone is not eligible, Keogh refers them to affordable Community Health Centers and free clinics. Keogh's staff also assists clients with communications between state agencies because some individuals are intimidated and confused by the necessary governmental process. The long-term objective of Keogh is to ensure low-income families have access to healthcare and nutritional programs; therefore, our clients will have increased attendance and performance in school, decreased hospital admissions for preventable conditions, improved family stability, and self-sufficiency. Keogh now employee’s eight people and assists more than 30,000 people a year across all of its programs.
For example, Keogh recently helped a very concerned mother and friend of mine named Ann*. Ann asked a staff member for help with on AHCCCS application for her husband, herself, and their three children. Her previous attempts were very frustrating and unsuccessful. Ann was fearful because her family couldn’t afford health insurance and other basic necessities. She also worried about her daughter who was ill and doctors suspected that she might have cancer. After contacting Keogh, their staff assisted Angie with correctly completing the AHCCCS application and informing her of other assistance programs for her family. Ann was very relieved to later receive a letter stating that her whole family had been approved.
