Hi! I am new here. Let's see, animals having some form of religion... No, they do not but as Bobby so beautifully expressed, they can be without all the discursive thinking that robes most of us of our being. Animals can be truly spiritual. I say "can be" because some of the higher forms, such as chimps, can be purposefully malicious and cruel just like humans. So, to me, it is not all black and white. With growing cognition comes a growing potentiality to create bliss or unnecessary suffering. Sean
Theres another amazing, simple thing that when children ask me if there will be animals in heaven I have no doubt and can reassure them. Whether you want to look at the Genesis account and other Biblical references as myth or story or legend or based on reality, there are some helpful truths representing animals and also living forever, in a manner of speaking. There were animals in the Garden of Eden before the Fall, when it was 'heaven on earth' with man, even as man gave them names. The animals were 'rescued/saved' in the great flood, representing a new birth. Isaiah talks about the "Peaceable Kingdom" with the lion laying down with a lamb and a child shall lead them. And Romans chapter 8 is very cool as it talks about all creation is waiting to be redeemed.....Love that. So, just some thoughts that for me certainly point to a 'religion' / spirituality of animals. I'm looking forward to seeing all my pets!!!!
Animals, like Nature (and not unlike children) are 'perfect' to better practice a big part of my religion/spirituality, and that is PRESENCE.....BEING in the moment ....being NOW. That's all there is for Nikki, my Pommeranian, and has been every day for the past 11 years. She is mindful--the present is all there is - this IS heaven for her, I am her Higher Power, or maybe, she's mine!!!
Animals are huge in our lives, yes, Stormie, AND they are most certainly not what they seem. Non-thinking, they cannot follow a religion's requirements, but instead they become an instrument of the sacred, administering to our souls with each slobber and hairball.
While they have no religion (and have no need for one), Stormie, remember, as they do not think, they do not mask themselves from What Is (which is so completely different from what we think). I believe every animal, insect and living thing is in touch with its own Divine Dignity. Its very being is a gift from its Creator and nothing can come between it's sensing that wonderful Ground of Belonging.
