Charlie Van Dyke

Here in the United States, it is an election year. Major issues include the economy and job growth.

Issues have arisen around the spiritual beliefs and moral character of some candidates.

So, the Town Square question: Are issues of spiritual position and moral character important or is it just about finding the best person to address the pressing problems?

If the person makes good decisions and doesn't want their spiritual position public I think that is still okay. It is very personal and I wouldn't want the whole world knowing all of my personal information.

I think that good moral character is what helps people make decisions about the pressing problems. It is all intertwined.

I maybe not a US citizen but from Italian politics, I think a spiritual position has a part in the decisions he or she makes.

Good question.....but in my opinion, I don't see how a candidate could address the pressing problems without a strong moral character as well as a deep sense of spirituality.
I think the problem is that we separate these two things, intellect and spirituality (which I could say is an emotional connection to the unknown or intangible) - when they really should be considered equally important and used in conjunction with each other. Making decisions or having opinions using one with out the other, in my opinion, invalidates the integrity of the decision and/or opinion.

Indeed, we should combine intellect and spirituality. One can help the other.
