» Animal Afterlife
Charlie Van Dyke
Posted January 31, 2012 by Charlie Van Dyke in Town Square
Chloe died yesterday morning. Chloe was a 12 year old Golden. We were having coffee together in the morning, as usual. She was laying by my feet, as usual. At a point, I noticed her breathing change. She died within 30 minutes. She looked up at me and my wife during the morning. As the transition began, she still responded until about the last 10 minutes. Her passing was a crushing loss to our family. She died peacefully and, as far as we could tell, pain free.

We believe in the story of Rainbow Bridge. Still, we bring the Town Square question to you: Do you believe in animal afterllife? If so, how do you see that?

I have a dog as well and I am sorry for your loss. Dogs become part of the family and the death of a family dog must be very heartbreaking.
I do think that animals have souls...what I don't know to be true is whether they return (reincarnate) as an animal or maybe there is a form change...
I know this thought may sound a little nuts, but that's how I think Smile..

I'm sorry to heard about that my friend. I know how you feel when a good pet goes away.

Sorry for your loss Charlie...it's so hard to lose our best friend.
I'm not sure where the pat answer that many people use came from---'Animals are not in heaven because they don't have a soul.' Especially since all life is sacred and miraculous, and in my faith tradition animals were created with man and woman in a perfect world, a heaven on earth, to last forever. I love the prophecy of the lion laying with the lamb in the peaceable kingdom (isaiah) and my favorite is that ALL CREATION is waiting to be redeemed (Romans). I look forward to seeing ALL my loved ones in my next life, including my cats and dogs and two guinea pigs 'Herman' & 'Melville'! (though some might draw the line at guinea pigs!)

My wife of 7 years lost her loving dog, Boomer 10 years ago. Every Dec 3rd she still cries at the thought of losing her loving pet. Dec. 3rd 2009 I could stand no more. I found Leo. Leo was a pound dog. He is now our "child". What a joy God Gave us when he lead us to Leo. God blesses those who care for his creations.
